Waiting for Guffman

In the small city of Blaine, Missouri, a group of eccentric residents prepare to put on a community theater production of a stage musical titled Red, White and Blaine. Aspiring director Corky St. Clair leads the cast in a series of poorly performed songs, including "Nothing Ever Happens on Mars", a reference to the town's supposed visit by an unidentified flying object. The show is intended to be performed as part of the town's 150th-anniversary celebration and is hoped to secure a positive review from Broadway producer Mort Guffman, who will be in attendance. However, when Guffman fails to appear, Corky must come to terms with the fact that his show may not make it big on Broadway.
