A young wannabe musician discovers he has bitten off more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank. The band's debut album is completed in a remote cabin in Ireland, but their celebration turns into chaos when they discover Don's corpse hanging from a tree - which is later revealed to be a disguise for Frank himself. As Jon tries to navigate his newfound role as the band's songwriter and friend, he faces off against Clara's growing resentment and his own attempts at stardom lead to creative disagreements and personal conflicts. In the end, Jon tracks down Frank to his hometown of Bluff City, Kansas, where he finally sees Frank's real face - a scarred and balding individual - and discovers that his mental illness has been masking a brilliant musician all along.
