Gene Wilder (Skip Donahue) and Richard Pryor (Harry Monroe), two unemployed friends, are given 125-year prison sentences after getting framed for a bank robbery while wearing woodpecker costumes as part of a promotion for a bank in Arizona. In prison, they befriend other inmates, including Jesus Ramirez and Rory Schultebrand, and hatch a plan to escape involving Skip's refusal to participate in the prison's annual rodeo competition.
