A straight-edged high school teacher, Mr. Butler, is thrilled when an honors student named Lucas Ward transfers to his school, especially since Lucas excels in literature and shares the same passion for the subject as him. However, their enthusiasm quickly turns sour when Lucas submits a provocative essay that disagrees with one of Mr. Butler's assignments, prompting the teacher to deny Lucas a coveted top grade.
