Sergeant Joe Gunn (Jim Belushi), Captain Halliday (Jerome Ehlers), and other Allied soldiers embark on a perilous journey across the Sahara desert in 1942 to evade advancing German forces after their unit falls at Tobruk. Led by Gunn's determination, they defend an ancient well against a battalion of Germans, facing impossible odds and ultimate defeat, before discovering a hidden source of water that turns the tide of the battle.
