Husband and wife Will (Jamie Bamber) and Dawn are in financial crisis after learning the job Will was counting on has disappeared. They set out to drive home on the winter highway when they pick up siblings Lee (Aleks Paunovic) and Cheryl (Marie Avgeropoulos), two hitchhikers with a shady past. After finding cash, a map, and a gold coin in an old man's pocket, Will and Dawn reluctantly go along with Lee's plan to report him to the police as a John Doe and search for the buried gold. The four venture off into the snowy wilderness, but their energy is sapped by inadequate clothing, mutual distrust, and unexpected terrain, leading to disagreements on how to continue.
