In 1963, Carson McBride, played by Phoebe Cates, is getting married, so her friends Melaina (Bridget Fonda), Pudge (Annabeth Gish), and Luanne (Page Hannah) take her to Myrtle Beach for one last irresponsible weekend. There’s the senator’s daughter, Luanne; the engaged or encaged Carson; the wannabe Hollywood starlet Malaina; and the thinks-she’s-still-fat-but-she’s-not Pudge.
