A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

In 1912 Brooklyn, a poor but aspirational Irish-American family navigates life's struggles amidst poverty and parental strife. Dorothy McGuire plays Katie, a hardworking housewife who scrapes by to provide for her family; Peggy Ann Garner shines as Francie, her precocious and imaginative daughter who idolizes her charming but troubled father, James Dunn, whose drinking habits threaten the family's stability. Amidst the challenges of everyday life, Francie faces an even greater test when she must confront her feelings about her father's absence and her own future.
