Three suburban mothers, Carol (Angela Bassett), Gillian (Patricia Arquette), and Helen (Felicity Huffman), drive to New York City to surprise their adult sons on Mother's Day. After a series of unexpected encounters with their long-absent sons, the women find closure and learn to let go.
