The Phantom of the Opera is a 1962 British horror film directed by Terence Fisher and starring Herbert Lom as The Phantom/Professor Petrie, Heather Sears as Christine Charles, Edward de Souza as Harry Hunter, Michael Gough as Lord Ambrose D'Arcy, and Patricia Clark providing the dubbed-over soprano voice for Heather Sears. Filmed in Eastman Color, the film is loosely adapted from Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel of the same name and follows a series of tragic events at London's Opera House on its opening night, as well as a subsequent plot to bring back a deceased composer through Christine's singing talents. The Phantom seeks his revenge against those who wronged him in life, while Harry Hunter tries to uncover his true identity.
