Four teenage African-American friends growing up together in Harlem regularly skip school and spend their days hanging out at a neighborhood arcade, record store, and Steel's apartment, where they steal LPs for Q's DJ interests. Fed up with harassment from police and rival gangs, Bishop decides the group must go on to do bigger things, but Q is unsure if he wants to become involved in crime. The friends decide to rob a local convenience store owned by Fernando Quiles, resulting in fatal consequences that set off a chain of events and confrontations with detectives, rival gangs, and each other. Ultimately, Q outsmarts Bishop, who falls to his death while trying to escape capture.
