In the gritty, crime-ridden South Philadelphia neighborhood modeled after Devil's Pocket, Mickey Scarpato navigates a complex web of loyalty and deceit in the wake of his stepson Leon's suspicious death. As he tries to bury the truth, Mickey is complicated by a nosy newspaper columnist, Richard Shelburn, and Jeanie, Leon's mother, who harbors doubts about the official cause of her son's demise.
