Ambitious young Jodie (Kim Basinger) wants more out of life than her small Texas country town has to offer, and she realizes that leaving will be necessary to pursue her dreams. However, her factory worker boyfriend Kyle (Jan-Michael Vincent) wants to stay in Texas. The couple's differing aspirations serve as the backdrop for a coming-of-age story about finding one's place in the world.
