Dolemite Is My Name

The film tells the story of Rudy Ray Moore, who created the iconic big screen pimp character Dolemite in the 1970s. Eddie Murphy stars as filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore, struggling artist working in a record store in 1970s L.A., trying to get on the air in the in-store radio station. He moonlights as an MC for his friend Ben Taylor and band at a club, creating a stage persona telling stories about Dolemite, launching into a crudely humorous and foul-mouthed routine "The Signifying Monkey". Moore asks his aunt for money to record a comedy album, which becomes popular through word-of-mouth and gains the attention of the Bihari brothers.
