In the desolate Mexican desert town of Real de Catorce, American composer Paul has arrived in search of inspiration and closure following his father's sudden passing. Instead, he becomes entangled in a decades-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of a woman named Marianne, as documentary filmmakers arrive to capture the eerie atmosphere of the rural setting, capturing something inexplicable on film that may just hold the key to unlocking the truth.
