The Queen of Spades

In 1806 St Petersburg, Captain Herman Suvorin (Anton Walbrook) becomes obsessed with winning at faro after learning rumors about a countess who sold her soul for a secret to win cards. He befriends the young Lizaveta Ivanovna (Yvonne Mitchell), the countess's ward, and attempts to seduce her to gain access to the countess's house, where he hopes to discover the winning secret. As Herman delves deeper into the mystery, the line between reality and supernatural horror blurs, leading him down a dark path of obsession and despair.
