In 2190, astronaut Captain John Laine (Omar Epps) arrives at the space station Pangea to begin a 10-year shift alongside engineer Jackie Miller (Kate Walsh), doctor Richard Valin (Angus Macfadyen), and Lisa Brown. The crew's initial camaraderie soon gives way to isolation-induced stress, and as they struggle to cope with their surroundings, they discover what appears to be the destruction of Earth. When shockwaves from an explosion damage Pangea, Laine and Miller must confront the possibility that their mission is doomed, leading to a series of flashbacks and flash-forwards that explore the psychological toll of their isolation.
