In "Drums Across the River" (1954), Audie Murphy plays Gary Brannon, a peaceful homesteader forced into a peacekeeping role when a bigoted young man tries to foment a war between the Utes and local whites over gold-mining purposes. The film follows Gary's transformation from hatred towards the Utes to allyship with them as he seeks to expose the machinations of a thief, Frank Walker (Lyle Bettger). Alongside Walter Brennan as his father Sam, Brannon navigates this complex situation.
