Salón México

"Salón México" is a 1949 Mexican film noir that follows Mercedes Gómez (Marga López), a cabaret performer and prostitute who secretly supports her younger sister Beatriz (Silvia Derbez) at an exclusive boarding school. When Mercedes wins a dance contest with her pimp Paco (Rodolfo Acosta), he refuses to share the prize, leading to a chain of events that ultimately ends in tragedy. As Lupe López (Miguel Inclán), a police officer who falls for Mercedes, tries to protect her from her exploiter, the film explores themes of sacrifice and poverty.
