Seven-year-old Chloe Lewis has spent her entire life confined to a decrepit house with her father Henry, who forbids her from leaving under the threat of being killed by "the bad men". When a mysterious stranger offers her a glimpse of what's really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn't so simple, the danger is very real. As she navigates her newfound ability to manipulate minds and confronts the government's Abnormal Defense Force, Chloe must also confront her own feelings about isolation, family, and finding her place in the world - with the help of her maternal grandfather Alan, who reveals a surprising connection to her past.
