In a suburb of Dakar, a futuristic tower is about to be officially opened, but the construction workers have not been paid for months. As one worker leaves the country by sea in search of a brighter future, his lover, Ada, is betrothed to another man and struggles to cope with his disappearance. A mysterious fire at her fiancé's bed sets off a chain of events that exposes the supernatural forces at work, as spirits return from the Atlantic Ocean to demand justice for their lost loved ones. In this unsettling romantic drama, Mati Diop weaves together themes of loss, class struggle, and redemption, set against the vibrant backdrop of Senegal's Dakar.
