Al Pacino stars as Arthur Kirkland, a Baltimore defense attorney forced to defend Judge Francis Rayford, a judge he despises, in a rape trial under threat of disbarment. Kirkland's personal life is complicated by an extramarital affair with Gail Packer and his strained relationships with friends and colleagues, including Judge Henry T. Fleming.
