The Story of Temple Drake

Miriam Hopkins stars as Temple Drake, a reckless Southern belle who falls into the hands of a brutal gangster and rapist after refusing her lawyer boyfriend's proposal. She is forced to spend the night at his speakeasy hideout, where she is subjected to a nightmarish act of sexual violence. Temple eventually kills her captor in self-defense and returns to her hometown for a murder trial, during which she confronts the harsh realities of her situation and the judgmental society that surrounds her.
