Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front

In 1943, during World War II, nine-year-old Molly McIntire lives in the fictional town of Jefferson, Illinois with her parents, James and Helen, and two older siblings, fourteen-year-old Jill and twelve-year-old Ricky. James, a doctor in the United States Army, decides to go to London to provide medical aid to soldiers and civilians, leaving Molly furious. After James departs, Helen decides to enter the workforce to do her part for the war effort, taking a factory job at the Jefferson Aircraft Plant. The McIntires then take in a British girl named Emily Bennett, who becomes Molly's friend despite their initial differences. As the war effort continues, Molly helps create care packages for Allied soldiers and prepares for Christmas, unaware that her father has been found alive and is on his way home.
