The Handmaid's Tale

In a dystopian, polluted right-wing religious tyranny, a young woman named Kate is put in sexual slavery on account of her now rare fertility. Kate is trained to become a Handmaid, a concubine for the privileged but barren couples who run the country's regime. She is assigned to the home of "the Commander" and his wife, Serena Joy, where she is forced into a life of emotional numbness and brutal rape, hoping to conceive a child. Kate grows attached to Nick, the Commander's sympathetic chauffeur, and eventually becomes pregnant with his child, leading to a series of events that ultimately lead to her escape.
