Flashdance

Alex Owens, an 18-year-old welder at a steel mill in Pittsburgh, aspires to become a professional dancer, but has no formal dance training and works as a nightly cabaret performer at Mawby's, a neighborhood bar and grill. Characterized by her passion and determination, Alex catches the eye of customer Nick Hurley, the owner of the steel mill where she works, who pursues her on the job and helps her apply to the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance and Repertory. With the support of her wealthy boyfriend Nick and the encouragement of her mentor, retired ballerina Hanna Long, Alex gains the courage to pursue her dream and, after a successful audition, emerges to find Nick and her dog Grunt waiting for her with a bouquet of roses.
