Terrence Howard stars as DJay, a Memphis pimp and drug dealer, in this gritty drama about a man's struggle to turn his life around through music. Backed by friends Key (Anthony Anderson) and Shelby, DJay begins creating songs that reflect his frustrations with life in the ghetto. Despite setbacks, DJay proves to be a talented lyricist and rapper, catching the attention of visiting superstar Skinny Black (Ludacris), who becomes a key figure in his journey to success.
