Nihon kuroshakai

In the 1999 Japanese yakuza film Ley Lines, directed by Takashi Miike, a trio of Japanese youths of Chinese descent, Ryuichi, his younger brother Shunrei, and their friend Chan, relocate to Shinjuku, Tokyo, where they befriend a troubled Shanghai prostitute, Anita, played by Dan Li. The group becomes embroiled in a world of crime and violence as they try to escape their past and find a way out of Japan. With a cast that includes Kazuki Kitamura, Tomorowo Taguchi, and Naoto Takenaka, Ley Lines explores the underbelly of respectable Japanese society and the problems of assimilation faced by non-ethnically Japanese people in Japan.
