In 18th-century Quebec, Trapper François (David La Haye) returns to his hometown to inherit his father's business, but soon develops a crush on Marie-Loup (Noémie Godin-Vigneau), the town's healer, who shares his deep sympathy for the local Native American tribe. François and Marie-Loup exchange letters, but their romance is threatened when François is forced to escape after the local authorities discover his business dealings. Marie-Loup is eventually accused of murder and witchcraft, and François is arrested, as the British authorities take over the colony, fearing it will rekindle hostilities.
