In the desert wilderness of Manchuria in 1939, three Korean outlaws, Park Do-won (Jung Woo-sung), Park Chang-yi (Lee Byung-hun), and Yoon Tae-goo (Song Kang-ho), become embroiled in a battle for a treasure map that could uncover the riches of legend. As they hijack a train and fight off the Japanese army and Chinese bandits, the lines between loyalty, betrayal, and friendship begin to blur. In the end, only Chang-yi and Do-won survive to find a "treasure" that turns out to be a barren hole in the desert, leading to a final act of vengeance and betrayal.
