Le scaphandre et le papillon

The film "Le scaphandre et le papillon" (2007) is a biographical drama based on Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, in which Mathieu Amalric plays the editor-in-chief of French fashion magazine Elle, who, after a devastating stroke, is left almost completely paralyzed and communicates through blinking his eye. As Bauby dictates his memoir, the film shows a visit to Lourdes and conveys his fantasies about beaches and mountains. Meanwhile, a woman from the publishing house takes dictation and completes the book, which becomes a bestseller, despite Bauby's eventual death from pneumonia ten days after its publication.
