Kim Byung-doo, a small-time gangster, is torn between his criminal aspirations and his devotion to his family. He subverts his boss, Sang-chul, and takes a job from President Hwang to eliminate a public prosecutor, receiving money and respect in return. Byung-doo's life is complicated by his friendship with film director Min-ho, his rekindled relationship with high school love interest Hyun-joo, and the consequences of his violent actions. As Byung-doo's rank in the gang escalates, he is forced to confront the dark secrets of his past and the true nature of his relationships, leading to a tragic confrontation with Min-ho.
