Zorg, an aspiring writer in his 30s, makes a living as a handyman for a community of beach houses in the seaside resort of Gruissan. He meets Betty, a volatile and impulsive 19-year-old woman, and the two begin a passionate affair. Betty's mental breakdown is fueled by her relationship with Zorg, who tries to support her as she struggles with borderline personality disorder. As their relationship becomes increasingly toxic, Zorg tries to hold on to Betty, even as she commits self-inflicted injuries and becomes a femme fatale, leaving Zorg to ultimately smoother her to death.
