Cyrano de Bergerac

Gérard Depardieu stars as Cyrano de Bergerac, a 17th-century Gascon poet and swordsman who writes love letters for his cousin Roxane, played by Anne Brochet, on behalf of his friend Christian de Neuvillette, played by Vincent Perez. Cyrano's enormous nose and inferiority complex prevent him from expressing his own love for Roxane, but he finds a way to declare his love to her indirectly through the letters and poems. The film, directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, is a lavish and faithful adaptation of Edmond Rostand's play, set against the backdrop of the Thirty Years' War.
