La Cérémonie

Sophie, an illiterate maid, is hired by Catherine Lelièvre to work for her family, who live in a manor house in the Brittany countryside. Sophie meets Jeanne, the postmistress, who encourages her to stand up against her bourgeois employers. Sophie and Jeanne become close, but their friendship soon takes an increasingly dark turn. As the situation escalates, Sophie, played by Sandrine Bonnaire, and Jeanne, played by Isabelle Huppert, are forced to confront their own illiteracy, class conflict, and personal demons.
