The High and the Mighty

John Wayne stars as Dan Roman, a veteran airline first officer, whose DC-4 airliner experiences a catastrophic engine failure while crossing the Pacific Ocean. As the crew struggles to maintain control, Dan Roman's experience and calm demeanor inspire the passengers to rally together and find new perspectives on their problems. With the help of navigator Lenny Wilby, Dan Roman guides the airliner to a perilously low altitude, narrowly avoiding a disastrous ditching, and ultimately successfully landing the plane in San Francisco.
