A famous Polish journalist, Jerzy Michałowski (Zbigniew Zapasiewicz), is a man whose personal life and career are falling apart. He is a well-known journalist and foreign correspondent who reports on wars, revolutions and guerrilla movements in the third world, but his personal life is marked by a wife who has an affair with a jealous young rival, Ewa Michałowska (Ewa Dałkowska). As Jerzy's career and personal life begin to unravel, he struggles to find his place in the world.
