Grimm (Bill Murray), his girlfriend Phyllis Potter (Geena Davis), and best friend Loomis (Randy Quaid) orchestrate a daring bank robbery in midtown Manhattan, evading the authorities with the aid of a hostage situation. Their getaway proves complicated, as fate, luck, and New York City conspire against them. The trio's misadventures include a jousting encounter, a run-in with a thug, a near-death experience, and a chaotic chase through the city. As they struggle to escape, Chief Rotzinger (Jason Robards) pursues them relentlessly.
