Ban sheng yuan

In 1930s Shanghai, a young office girl named Gu Manzhen falls in love with a factory worker named Shen Shujun. Gu Manlu, Manzhen's sister, decides to marry a wealthy playboy, Zhu Hongcai, instead, causing tension and obstacles for the two lovers. Manzhen becomes pregnant out of wedlock, is kept prisoner by Zhu, and eventually raises his son before reconnecting with Shujun fourteen years later, only to realize they can never be together again due to their obligations.
