A coroner, Prof. Dr. Paul Herzfeld (Moritz Bleibtreu), discovers a capsule in a morgue corpse, containing a phone number and a name: his 17-year-old daughter Hannah. The storm surrounding the island of Heligoland cuts off all communication, and Linda, a 24-year-old cartoonist, finds a corpse on the beach. Herzfeld's daughter is kidnapped, and he enlists Linda's and a caretaker, Ender Müller, to help him find clues, leading them to a group of grieving fathers who orchestrate her abduction to elicit a reaction from Herzfeld.
