Better Luck Tomorrow

High school junior Ben Manibag, an overachieving Asian American teenager, sets goals to make his school's basketball team, date his crush, and earn Ivy League admission, but his perfectionism masks a side of petty crime with his friends Virgil Hu and Han Lue. As Ben's life becomes increasingly complicated, he is recruited into a schoolwide cheating operation and becomes embroiled in a series of escalating money-making activities and substance use. The group's actions eventually lead to a tragic event, but the film's exploration of the characters' motivations and the consequences of their actions is left open to interpretation.
