A successful artist, John Talia Jr. (Trevor Morgan), looks back on his defining year, 1974, and recalls a summer spent with Nicholai Seroff (Armin Mueller-Stahl), an elderly Russian expatriate impressionist painter who shares wisdom about life and art, helping the young artist to find purpose again.
