In 1968, a group of five college students on a hike through the mountains of Puebla, Mexico, are accused by a local priest of being communist agitators on the run from an army crackdown, and are brutally lynched by the townsfolk. The film, directed by Felipe Cazals, is a dramatic re-enactment of real-life events, shot in a documentary style. The local priest, Enrique Meza Pérez, played by Enrique Lucero, plays a pivotal role in the events leading to the massacre. The film explores the pervasive atmosphere of repression in Mexico following widespread protests over the government's spending on the 1968 Summer Olympics.
