Francesco, directed and co-written by Liliana Cavani, is a 1989 historical drama film about the life of St. Francis of Assisi. The film explores Francis' evolution from a pampered son of a merchant to a religious humanitarian and finally to a full-fledged saint, as revealed by followers who gather after his death. Mickey Rourke stars as Francis, while Helena Bonham Carter plays his future wife, Chiara, in the film.
