A Portuguesa

"A Portuguesa" is a 2018 film adaptation of Robert Musil's 1923 novella of the same name, directed by Rita Azevedo Gomes. The story follows the von Kettens, a German-speaking family in northern Italy, as they navigate power struggles with the Bishop of Trent. Herr von Kettens seeks a Portuguese bride, but his family's interests and the bishop's power lead to a complex web of relationships. Clara Riedenstein plays the Portuguese woman, A Portuguesa, who becomes the linchpin in a story that unfolds in the shadow of war, loss, and transformation.
