The Portrait of a Lady

Isabel Archer, played by Nicole Kidman, is a young woman of independent means who has already rejected many suitors, including the wealthy Lord Warburton and Caspar Goodwood. Her strong character and free-spirited nature are adored by her cousin, Ralph Touchett, who writes her into his fatally ill father's will, giving her a fortune. As she navigates her new life, Isabel befriends a cynical intellectual, Gilbert Osmond, played by John Malkovich, and romances an art enthusiast, but soon realizes the extent to which her money colors her relationships.
