A small-time hood is torn between love, friendship and the chance to rise within the mob as he navigates a group of troubled young men in New York's Little Italy. Charlie Cappa must confront his devout Catholicism and illicit Mafia work, all while trying to protect his reckless friend Johnny Boy Civello from the loan sharks who are closing in on him. With its gritty realism and introspective sincerity, Mean Streets is a searing portrayal of urban life, identity and redemption set against the vibrant backdrop of 1970s New York City.
