A Soviet spacecraft crash lands after a mission gone awry, leaving its commander as the sole survivor. After being evaluated by Dr. Tatyana Klimova, a renowned Russian psychologist, it becomes clear that something dangerous may have come back to Earth with him. The alien creature, which has formed a symbiotic bond with Veshnyakov, is kept alive by feeding on cortisol from the fear of living humans, sparking a cat-and-mouse game between Klimova, Veshnyakov, and the sinister Colonel Semiradov.
