In the spring of 1941, 16-year-old Toshihiko Sakakiyama (Shunsuke Kubozuka) leaves Amsterdam to attend school in Karatsu, where his aunt Keiko (Takako Tokiwa) cares for his ailing cousin Mina (Honoka Yahagi). Immersed in the seaside's nature and culture, Toshihiko befriends the town's other extraordinary adolescents, including Ukai (Shinnosuke Mitsushima), Kira (Keishi Nagatsuka), and Aso (Tokio Emoto), as they all contend with the war's gravitational pull.
