Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte

In 1927, young Southern belle Charlotte Hollis (Bette Davis) and her married lover John Mayhew plan to elope during a party at the Hollis family's antebellum mansion in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Thirty-seven years later, Charlotte, a spinster, is tended to by her loyal housekeeper, Velma (Agnes Moorehead), as she faces eviction from her family's mansion due to the impending construction of a new interstate. Seeking help in her fight against the demolition crew, Charlotte summons her successful businesswoman cousin, Miriam Deering (Olivia de Havilland), who returns and renews her relationship with Drew Bayliss (Joseph Cotten), a local doctor. As Charlotte's sanity deteriorates, she becomes the target of a mysterious plot involving her cousin, her housekeeper, and a long-buried family secret that ultimately leads to her downfall.
